To join the weekly 'on-air' meetings of the local IARU chapter, a proper antenna is needed. It is held at 145.275 MHz which is the 2m band.
To keep the used space low, a 1/4 labda ground plane antenna is an ideal choice.

The idea is very easy.
I used tinned 6mm2 wire, normaly used for earthing.

Below you can see the SWR readout, the 2 needles cross at 1.9.
After chipping off a few bitsi from the vertical wire I got it down to 1.1 which is written as 1:1.1.
A temporary position:
when I had some free time (and courage) I placed it on the roof, mounted it with steel bands to the chimney
First tests
I could receive and transmit to the repeater pi3utr which is 90KM west of me easily.
After a hefty storm, I received only noise when I wanted to join the weekly meeting. a quick peek on the roof showed the following:
It was time to move on to something better:
The diamond x30 is the result, although there are other with better specs, they are all twice as high!.
